Residents enjoyed an evening with a difference on Thursday 13th June. The usual quiet and tranquil setting of the library was transformed into lively Gastropub with equally Gastronomic food to match. Residents invited their friends and family to join them for this little treat. Starters included a choice of prawn cocktail or breaded baked camembert with a cranberry compote or chicken liver parfait – all of which were washed down with a beer or cold white wine.
The main courses were a choice of Fillet of Salmon with hollandaise sauce: chicken and leek puff pasty pie, traditional pork sausages, all served creamed potatoes and a seasonal panache of vegetables. Ahead of starting even a few tried a few pork scratchings to get into the authentic pub atmosphere. For puddings, there was a choice of sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce or chocolate brownies with Orio ice cream and traditional bramble apple pie and custard. Accompanied by desert wine and followed by a selection of cheeses.
Everyone was waited on by the home host and management. No one needs an excuse for a special evening so the Layston management and kitchen team decided to put it on as they’d learnt how they had been so well received at our other Oakdale homes.
The residents and their loved ones agreed too and a wonderful evening was had by all….. in the comfort and safety of our home. It doesn’t get much better than that!
The next pop up restaurant will be in September when we look forward to a French gourmet evening with a taste of Provence.
