Special friendships formed at Layston Grove
Frank, a much-loved character in our home has recently needed to use a walking frame for additional support when walking and standing. The care team have tried to encourage Frank, for a number of weeks, to use the frame rather than the wall handrails to get around the home, but Frank initially wasn’t keen on the idea. However, after having a long chat with our Maintenance Manager, Jakub Szot, one afternoon, he had a change of heart.
Jakub has formed a friendship with Frank and often takes him out to the local shops to get a lottery ticket, so understood that this would be a big step for him. With that in mind, Jakub decided to take a number of aids to Franks room for him to try and choose which one he would like to use. By giving Frank the choice, it allowed him to still feel in control and independent, which we know is hugely important for our residents and something we try to encourage.
It’s great to see such lovely friendships built within our home and Frank now using his mobility frame with confidence.
